Embodiments of this application provide a positioning method and elated device. The method includes : determining, by a location management function network element based on an access type of a terminal device, a positioning method for the terminal device and an access type for obtaining a positioning parameter, and sending, by the location management function network element, the positioning method and indication information to a mobility management network element, where the indication information indicating to the mobility management network element that obtaining the positioning parameter by using the access type. According to the embodiments of this application, the finally determined positioning method can be prevented from being inapplicable to a current access type of the terminal device.
