Zusammenfassung:	A method of determining chemical oxygen demand in water samples containing chloride ions by a photoelectrochemical method in which the photo electrode is activated by light pulses and the pulse parameters and the light source intensity are set to favour the oxidation of organic species in the water sample and to suppress any oxidation from the chloride ions present in the sample. The method controls the duration of the pulse, the gap between pulses and the light intensity.
