An Independent claim is also included for the process of making the composite by first laying down alternate layers of non-woven and continuous film. The film and non-woven are bonded locally in a regular pattern and the assembly is heated to shrink the film so that the non-woven buckles into waves. The material is then stretched to smooth out the non-woven while at the same time tearing the film where it is not bonded to the non-woven. Specifically claimed are applications in disposable operating gowns, hygiene or medical wrapping, nappies and sanitary towels.
