Zusammenfassung:A composite material consists of outer layers of fibrous (5) non-wovens and a central reinforcing layer derived from thermoplastic film. The reinforcing layer forms a regular repeated pattern, e.g. spaced parallel strips (2). The non-woven is bonded thermally to parts of the film, but there is no bond in regions where the film has been torn. An Independent claim is also included for the process of making the composite by first laying down alternate layers of non-woven and continuous film. The film and non-woven are bonded locally in a regular pattern and the assembly is heated to shrink the film so that the non-woven buckles into waves. The material is then stretched to smooth out the non-woven while at the same time tearing the film where it is not bonded to the non-woven. Specifically claimed are applications in disposable operating gowns, hygiene or medical wrapping, nappies and sanitary towels.
