Zusammenfassung:The present invention relates to a process for the hot forging of steel with a very high carbon content, from 1.4 and 2.1 % by mass of said element, for the fabrication of cutting weapons. The process comprises four steps: 1) hot forging and finish machining; 2) hardening and final machining; 3) quality control, certification and engraving of the trade mark; 4) chemical etching and final protection. The forging operation is carried out at a temperature comprised between 650 DEG C and 850 DEG C and is completed with the hardening in water salted with urea and sodium and potassium chloride, water which has been heated to 35-40 DEG C, in average concentrations simular to human urine. This process can be carried out partially or totally in a traditional forge. A finishing operation and sharpening operation with the use of a water stone, prior to the hardening, as well as the final sharpening and polishing, after the hardening, with the same process give the final shape to the forged parts. The final aspect is obtained by oxidizing acid etching with Nital at 4-12 % by weight (alcohol solution of nitric acid), or alcohol solution acidified with hydrochloride acid or with nitric acid, or with ferric sulfate or chloride; the sheet can be optionally protected with various waxes or lacquers. The main application of this process is the fabrication of cutting and thrusting weapons for sports, decorative, military, hunting, quaterning uses, etc. or for the fabrication of tools with a cutting edge which are highly resistant to wear, such as machinery tools, drills, or any other type of tools used in mechanical workshops, etc.
