MATCHING FOUNDATION COULOUR TO THAT OF A PERSON'S SKIN

Method and apparatus for matching foundation colour to that of a person's skin. The apparatus comprises: a) means (12) for measuring skin colour on the inner arm or on the inner and outer arm, preferably in a mid area of the forearm wherein the colour of the veins is not apparent, excluding spotted areas or areas with prominent veins; (b) means (18) for calculating and determining skin colour measured by measurement means (12), said determining means (18) comprising a data base containing a range of reference foundation colours substantially covering a sample representing a population of individuals concerned, the data base containing at least the following data: the skin colour on the inner arm or on the outer arm or on the inner and outer arms, preferably in a mid area of the forearm wherein the colour of the veins is not substantially apparent, thereby excluding spotted areas or areas with prominent veins, a foundation colour reference associated with one or more skin colours of said data base, c) said determining means (18) comprising means for comparing the skin colour measured of the person concerned with the skin colours in the data base, in order to determine the colour identical to or close to that of the data base, and consequently determine in said data base the foundation colour associated with the skin colour and, advantageously, means (20) for displaying the given foundation colour.
