La présente invention concerne un procédé de préparation de carprofène comprenant la conversion de 2-(6-chloro-2,3,4,9-tétrahydro-1H-carbazol-2-yl)-2-méthylmalonate de diéthyle de formule (II) en diéthyl 2-(6-chloro-9H-carbazol-2-yl)-2-méthylmalonate de formule (III) en présence d'un sel de cuivre et la conversion du composé de formule (III) en carprofène.
