The air conditioner (1000) comprises an indoor unit (100), an outdoor unit (200), an indoor temperature measurement apparatus (400), and a controller (300). The indoor unit (100) comprises an indoor heat exchanger (101). The outdoor unit (200) comprises an outdoor heat exchanger (202). The indoor temperature measurement apparatus (400) is configured to measure the indoor ambient temperature. The controller (300) is configured to: control the air conditioner (1000) to enter a self-cleaning mode in response to a received self-cleaning instruction, causing the heat exchanger to be cleaned to operate as an evaporator and cause ice to form on a surface of the heat exchanger to be cleaned; and adjust an operating parameter of the air conditioner (1000) according to the indoor ambient temperature, where the heat exchanger to be cleaned is the outdoor heat exchanger (202) or the indoor heat exchanger (101).
