The method comprises: if a target person enters a monitoring area of a radar sensor, acquiring the minimum height of the target person from the radar sensor (S201); and determining a first height of the target person according to the minimum height of the target person from the radar sensor, a height difference, and the mounting height of a detection device that is collected by means of a distance sensor (S202). By using the technical solution, automatic acquisition of the mounting height of the detection device is achieved, manual setting of the mounting height of the detection device is avoided, the acquisition process of the mounting height of the detection device is simplified, and the mounting height of a household appliance does not need to be limited, so that the height of a detected person can be simply and reliably acquired, and the type of the detected person is further acquired.
