Provided are a V-type engine, an outboard motor, and a ship that can prevent a catalyst from being submerged. This V-type engine is provided with: exhaust pipes that have a cylinder in which a piston is operated arranged in a V-shape, have a crank shaft driven by driving of the piston in a vertical direction, and are in communication with exhaust ports of respective banks of a cylinder head; and a catalyst retention part that retains a catalyst at a merging part at which the respective exhaust pipes merge with each other at a place above the banks.
