USE OF ALHAGI PSEUDALHAGI PLANT EXTRACT (VARIANTS)

The inventions relate to the pharmaceutical and medical industry and are applicable in medicine, and more particularly relate to the use of a biologically active extract of the plant Alhagi pseudalhagi for new purposes and to a pharmaceutical composition based thereon. Proposed are uses of an Alhagi pseudalhagi plant extract containing polymeric proanthocyanidins, isoprenoids, flavonoids and carbohydrates in an effective amount for preventing glaucoma and aggressive lesions of the substantia nigra of the brain and for lowering intraocular pressure in humans or animals. Also proposed is a pharmaceutical composition that exhibits similar activity and contains the above Alhagi pseudalhagi plant extract. The inventions make it possible to prevent the development of glaucoma and aggressive lesions of the substantia nigra of the brain (the development of Parkinson's disease) and to lower intraocular pressure.
