The method comprises: acquiring an image to be processed, said image comprising a document image (101); binarizing said image to obtain an edge detection image comprising edge lines (102); recognizing lines in the edge detection image (103); grouping the lines according to the types and positions of the lines to obtain four groups of lines (104); selecting one line from each of the four groups of lines to obtain four lines (105); and determining the area corresponding to the four lines as the area of a document image (106).
