Zusammenfassung:The use of 2D codes 225, such as QR codes requires some skill from the user, and problems are frequently reported with unusable images. The display of the code 225 is frequently too small, too large, or with too little contrast. Recognition failure occurs if the displayed code or the smart device reading it is moving. In particular, users (both consumers 160 and merchants 130) are demanding that the interaction for payment transactions become more user friendly and less sensitive to user errors. A payment transaction method is provided comprising: providing a 2-dimensional coded representation 225 to a payment giver 160 for identifying the payment receiver 130; providing a code recognition device 350, 450 to recognize the 2-dimensional coded representation 225 as being associated with the payment receiver 130; commencing a payment transaction from a payment giver 160 to the payment receiver 130; wherein the 2-dimensional coded representation 225 is provided to the code recognition device 350, 450 using a non-visual interaction channel 325, and the 2-dimensional coded representation 225 is recognized using non- visual scanning. Although 2D codes can provide a convenient and quick way to convey complex information, user-friendliness is severely limited by the requirement that the 2D codes should be visually scanned. A smart device with an optical camera is always required, and the 2D code should always be displayed somewhere close by. For backwards compatibility and maximum interoperability, the 2D code should be retained. However, speed and reliability of interaction will be increased. In addition, the 2D codes may be provided when the payment receiver and payment giver are no longer in visual range. Alternatively or additionally, a push request database 600 may be provided which allows a selection to be made between payment using a push request or payment using a 2d coded representation 225. This selection may be performed by the payment giver 160, the payment receiver 130 or an arbiter.
