GENETIC MODULATION OF PHOTOSYNTHETIC ORGANISMS FOR IMPROVED GROWTH

Mutant photosynthetic organisms having reduced chlorophyll and increased photosynthetic efficiency are provided. The mutant strains have mutated or attenuated: chloroplastic SRP54 gene and SGIl gene; chloroplastic SRP54 gene and SGI2 gene; chloroplastic SRP54 gene, SGIl, and SGI2 genes are disclosed. The mutant photosynthetic organisms exhibit increased productivity with respect to wild-type strains. Also provided are mutant photosynthetic organisms having mutated or attenuated cytosolic SRP54 genes. Provided herein are methods of producing biomass and other products such as lipids using strains having mutations in an SRP54 gene, SGIl, SGI2 genes, a combination of SGI1/SRP54, and a combination of SGI2 and SRP54 genes. Also included are constructs and methods for attenuating or disrupting SRP54, SGIl, and SGI2 genes. La présente invention concerne des organismes photosynthétiques mutants présentant une teneur réduite en chlorophylle et une efficacité photosynthétique accrue. Les souches mutantes ont muté ou atténuée : gène SRP54 chloroplastique et gène SGIl ; gène SRP54 chloroplastique et gène SGI2 ; gène SRP54 chloroplastique, SGIl, et gènes SGI2. Les organismes photosynthétiques mutants présentent une productivité accrue par rapport aux souches de type sauvage. L'invention concerne également des organismes photosynthétiques mutants ayant des gènes SRP54 cytosoliques mutés ou atténués. L'invention concerne des procédés de production de biomasse et d'autres produits tels que des lipides à l'aide de souches ayant des mutations dans un gène SRP54, SGIl, des gènes SGI2, une combinaison de SGI1/SRP54, et une combinaison de gènes SGI2 et SRP54.
