The present invention relates to the technical field of communications, and in particular, to a communication method and a receiver for a directional communication system. The method of the present application comprises: receiving a request message; performing directional channel sense in a direction pointing to a transmitter; and if the channel is sensed to be available, sending a response message, or otherwise, send no response message. By performing directional channel sense in the direction pointing to the transmitter after a receiver receives the request message, the method of the present application can accurately and directionally detect whether a channel pointing to the receiver from the transmitter is available, and can avoid the problem in the prior art of detection error or detection omission.
