The present invention relates to the field of communication technology, and discloses a method and device (20) for detecting a health state of a network element. In particular, the method comprises: a detection device (20) determines sampled data of at least one key performance indicator (KPI) of a target network element within a first time window; the detection device (20) obtains, according to sampled data of any KPI of the at least one KPI within the first time window and a steady-state value of said KPI, a volatility score for any KPI; and the detection device (20) determines, according to the volatility score for each KPI of the at least one KPI, a health state of the target network element.
