Zusammenfassung:	Vorrichtung (1) und Verfahren zum Aufbringen einer Kohlenstoffschicht, insbesondere einer Diamantschicht, auf ein Substrat (2, 2a) durch chemische Gasphasenabscheidung, mit einer Abscheidekammer (3), in welche ein Prozessgas, insbesondere molekularer Wasserstoff und/oder ein Gemisch aus molekularem Wasserstoff und einem kohlenstoffhaltigen Gas, beispielsweise Methan, zuführbar ist, wobei ein Gaseinleit- und Gasaktivierungselement (7) in Form eines Hohlkörpers mit einem Strömungskanal (7b) für das Prozessgas, einer den Strömungskanal (7b) umgebenden Wandung (7a) und einer vom Strömungskanal (7b) in die Abscheidekammer (3) mündenden Austrittsöffnung (16) und eine Heizvorrichtung (8) zum Aufheizen der Wandung (7a) des Gaseinleit- und Gasaktivierungselementes (7) vorgesehen ist.
