An air conditioner comprises an outdoor unit, a plurality of cooling-heating switching units that are connected to the outdoor unit and have valves for switching a refrigerant channel, an aggregate unit that integrally houses the cooling-heating switching units, and a plurality of indoor units that can be freely connected to and disconnected from the cooling-heating switching units. Each cooling-heating switching unit has a controller that operates by the output of a power source that is connected without passing through an indoor unit and that is capable of a signal line connection to the respective indoor unit. The controller initializes the valve when the power source is turned on and drives the valve in response to an instruction from each indoor unit via the signal line.
