The present invention provides a method and a device for determining a state of network equipment. The method comprises: when self-loopback connection of a designated port in network equipment succeeds, calculating a plurality of first packet receiving and transmitting quantities corresponding to the designated port within a plurality of first preset periods; separately comparing the plurality of first packet receiving and transmitting quantities with pre-configured second packet receiving and transmitting quantities to obtain a plurality of comparison results; and determining, according to percentages of the comparison results, a state of the network equipment corresponding to the percentages.
