A storage system comprising a controller that prevents the redundant storage of the same chunk data in a memory device, on the basis of: data block information indicating the association between each data block and a plurality of chunk data items constituting the data block; chunk group information indicating the association between each non-redundant chunk data item and a chunk group to which the chunk data belong; and reference data block information indicating the association between each chunk group and the data block having, as a constituent element, any of the chunk data items belonging to the chunk group.
