APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR INSERTING AN INTERBODY FUSION DEVICE

An apparatus for use in spinal interbody fusion comprises, in combination, a spinal interbody fusion implant and an inserter releasably attached thereto. The implant comprises a hollow interior through which the inserter extends, the inserter having a tapered distal tip projecting exteriorly beyond the distal end of the implant to initially distract opposing tissue surfaces and to facilitate insertion of the implant into the intradiscal space between the vertebral bodies. La présente invention concerne un appareil à utiliser dans une fusion intersomatique des vertèbres, comprenant en association un implant de fusion intersomatique des vertèbres et un porte-prothèse y étant fixé de manière amovible. Ledit implant présente un intérieur creux à travers lequel s'étend le porte-prothèse. Ledit porte-prothèse possède une pointe distale effilée faisant saillie vers l'extérieur au-delà de l'extrémité distale de l'implant, ce qui permet de réaliser initialement la distraction de surfaces de tissu en regard et facilite l'insertion de l'implant dans l'espace intervertébral entre les corps vertébraux.
