L'invention porte sur des systèmes et des procédés pour réduire le diamètre d'un revêtement de pipeline afin de réparer un pipeline endommagé, comprenant des moyens pour réduire la force de traction nécessaire. Ceci est obtenu à l'aide d'un outil de réduction à sections multiples utilisant une réduction à deux étapes et des moyens de poussée servant à faire avancer la partie de revêtement non réduite dans l'outil.
