The electrolyte includes a hydroxide dissolved in water. The separator in combination with the electrolyte has an initial area-specific resistance between about 100 mOhm-cm2 and about 220 mOhm-cm2. L'invention concerne une cellule électrochimique alcaline ayant une anode comprenant un matériau d'anode électrochimiquement actif, une cathode comprenant un matériau de cathode électrochimiquement actif, un séparateur entre l'anode et la cathode, et un électrolyte. L'électrolyte comprend un hydroxyde dissous dans l'eau. Le séparateur en combinaison avec l'électrolyte présente une résistance de surface spécifique initiale d'entre environ 100 mOhm-cm2 et environ 220 mOhm-cm2.
