Zusammenfassung:	Disclosed is the oxidation of uronic acids, such as galacturonic acid, to the corresponding aldaric acids (characterized by the formula HOOC-(CHOH)n-COOH, with n being an integer of from 1 to 5) such as galactaric acids. The starting material comprising the uronic acid is subjected to oxygen under the influence of a supported gold catalyst and in the presence of a base. The oxidation occurs in good selectivity and yield, under unexpectedly mild conditions. A source of galacturonic acids is pectin, such as that derived from sugar beet pulp. L'Invention concerne l'oxydation d'acides uroniques, tels que l'acide galacturonique, en acides aldariques correspondants (caractérisés par la formule HOOC- (CHOH) n-COOH, n étant un nombre entier allant de 1 à 5) tels que les acides galactariques. Le matériau de départ comportant de l'acide uronique est soumis à de l'oxygène sous l'influence d'un catalyseur à l'or supporté et en présence d'une base. L'oxydation se produit à une bonne sélectivité et rendement, dans des conditions modérées de façon inattendue. Une source d'acides galacturoniques est la pectine, telle que celle dérivée de pulpe de betterave sucrière.
