Zusammenfassung:	The present invention relates to processes for hydromethanating a carbonaceous feedstock to a methane-enriched synthesis gas and a char by-product, with catalyst recovery from the by-product char to generate a spent char, and with treatment of the spent char to generate a carbon rich portion which is ultimately recycled to the hydromethanation reactor to increase overall carbon utilization and increase yields of product gas (per unit of feedstock). La présente invention concerne des procédés d'hydrométhanation d'une matière première carbonée en vue d'obtenir un gaz de synthèse enrichi en méthane et un sous-produit de carbonisation, comportant la récupération du catalyseur du sous-produit de carbonisation pour générer un produit de carbonisation épuisé et comportant le traitement du produit de carbonisation épuisé pour générer une fraction riche en carbone qui est finalement recyclée dans le réacteur d'hydrométhanation pour augmenter l'utilisation totale du carbone et augmenter les rendements en produit gazeux (par unité de matière première).
