La présente invention concerne des méthodes pour traiter l'hyperglycémie et pour retarder l'apparition du diabète, ces méthodes consistant à administrer à un mammifère en ayant besoin une quantité thérapeutiquement efficace d'un agoniste du récepteur GABA à l'approche d'une administration d'insuline exogène ou pendant celle-ci, ou à l'approche d'un repas ou pendant celui-ci.
