EQUIPMENT AND ASSOCIATED METHOD FOR INSERTION MATERIAL INTO CIGARETTE FILTERS

Filter rods for use in the manufacture of cigarette filter elements are provided, with each rod having a longitudinal axis and incorporating a generally longitudinally extending filter material and a generally longitudinally extending strand within that filter material. A filter making unit receives a continuous supply of a filter material, and forms the filter material into a gathered composite having a continuous cylindrical shape. A continuous supply of a strand (e.g., colored thread) is provided and is introduced into the filter material gathered composite in the tongue of the filter making unit. The filter material and continuous strand positioned therein are formed into a continuous rod having the strand material laterally positioned within that rod, and the continuous rod is subdivided at pre-determined longitudinal intervals to provide a plurality of rod portions. La présente invention concerne des cylindres pour filtres utilisables dans la fabrication d'éléments de type filtre à cigarette, chaque cylindre possédant un axe longitudinal et intégrant un matériau constitutif du filtre se prolongeant longitudinalement en général, ainsi qu'un brin se prolongeant longitudinalement en général au sein du matériau constitutif du filtre. Une unité de fabrication de filtres est alimentée en continu en matériau constitutif du filtre et façonne le matériau constitutif du filtre en un composite roulé présentant une forme cylindrique continue. Une alimentation continue en un brin (par exemple un fil coloré) est prévue et ledit brin est introduit dans le composite roulé constitué du matériau constitutif du filtre à hauteur du garrot de l'unité de fabrication de filtres. Le matériau constitutif du filtre et le brin continu positionné à l'intérieur sont façonnés en un cylindre continu dans lequel le brin est positionné latéralement, et le cylindre continu est subdivisé à des intervalles longitudinaux prédéterminés afin de donner une pluralité de portions de cylindre.
