The asphalt rich phase is stripped of solvent to produce dearomatized asphalt that has superior properties for paving and roofing applications. L'invention concerne un asphalte désaromatisé. Plus précisément, un asphalte est extrait avec un solvant d'extraction aromatique afin d'obtenir une phase riche en asphalte et une phase riche en solvant. Le solvant est éliminé de la phase riche en asphalte afin d'obtenir un asphalte désaromatisé présentant des propriétés supérieures pour des applications de pavage et de couverture.
