METHODS OF USING CGRP FOR CARDIOVASCULAR AND RENAL INDICATIONS

The present invention provides methods of treating and preventing mortality associated with heart failure and renal insufficiency in a Stage B, C, or D heart failure patient, and for improving quality of life by providing improved methods of administering a therapeutically effective amount CGRP. One method comprise administering between about 50 and about 500 ng/min of CGRP for a time between 30 minutes and 8 hours per day for as many days as needed to provide symptomatic relief, prevent exacerbation of symptoms, and/or prevent and/or delay progression of the disease state of heart failure in said patient. The therapies can be administered on an outpatient or inpatient basis. La présente invention concerne des procédés qui permettent de traiter et prévenir la mortalité associée à l'insuffisance cardiaque et à l'insuffisance rénale chez un patient souffrant d'une insuffisance cardiaque au stade B, C ou D, et d'améliorer la qualité de la vie en offrant une administration améliorée d'une quantité thérapeutiquement efficace de CGRP. Selon l'un des procédés de l'invention, on administre entre environ 50 et environ 500 ng/min. de CGRP pendant une durée comprise entre 30 minutes et 8 heures par jour pendant autant de jours qu'il est nécessaire pour obtenir un soulagement des symptômes, pour empêcher l'exacerbation des symptômes, et/ou empêcher et/ou retarder la progression de l'état pathologique d'insuffisance cardiaque chez ledit patient. Les thérapies peuvent être administrées à des patients hospitalisés ou non.
