LOCATION STATUS INDICATOR FOR MOBILE PHONES

A method of presenting location data 114,116 representing a mobile phone's current location to a mobile phone user via the mobile phone display 104. The location information is iconically displayed and periodically updated. To display location information, the mobile phone determines its current position 312. The mobile phone then looks up locations 316 within a predetermined distance 314 from the current position of the mobile phone. The mobile phone then compares the results and selects 318, 320 the location / location icon pairing that is closest to the current position of the mobile phone. This location icon is then displayed 322 on the mobile phone display. The mobile phone then waits 328 a predetermined period before re-determining the current position 312 of the mobile phone and repeating the search/display processes. Both the predetermined wait period and predetermined distance from the current position are user defined parameters that can be altered at the user's discretion.
