Described herein is a motor vehicle (1) provided with a folding top (6), wich is supported by a frame (5) of the motor vehicle (1) and can be set in an open position or in a closed position; the folding top (6) has an element (7) of covering, which is substantially horizontal in the closed position and is hinged at the rear to the frame (5) of the motor vehicle (1) so that it can rotate about a first horizontal axis (8) between the open position and the closed position; the element (7) of covering is made up of two half-elements (11, 12) which are connected together in such a way that one half-element (11) of front covering is folded on a half-element (12) of rear covering when the folding top (6) passes from the closed position to the open position. L'invention concerne un véhicule automobile (1) pourvu d'une capote escamotable (6), laquelle est portée par un bâti (5) du véhicule automobile (1) et peut être placée dans une position ouverte ou une position fermée; cette capote escamotable (6) comporte un élément (7) de recouvrement, lequel est sensiblement horizontal en position fermée et est articulé à l'arrière sur le bâti (5) du véhicule automobile (1) de manière à pouvoir tourner autour d'un premier axe horizontal (8) entre la position ouverte et la position fermée; cet élément (7) de recouvrement est constitué de deux demi-éléments (11, 12), lesquels sont reliés l'un à l'autre de telle manière qu'un demi-élément (11) de recouvrement avant se replie sur un demi-élément (12) de recouvrement arrière lorsque la capote escamotable (6) passe de la position fermée à la position ouverte.
