IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO ISOBUTYLENE

High purity isobutylene streams are obtained by the hydroformylation of mixed butene streams containing butene­-1 and isobutylene (and optionally butene-2) under conditions that hydroformylate primarily butene-1 to yield a mixture of valeraldehyde and isobutylene, which may be separated out as an enriched isobutylene stream and used in the production of methyl tertiary butyl ether, tertiary butyl alcohol, di-isobutylene or polyisobutylene. L'invention concerne des courants d'isobutylène de pureté élevée que l'on obtient par hydroformylation de courants buténiques contenant butène-1 et isobutylène (et éventuellement butène-2) dans des conditions d'hydroformylation de butène-1 principalement pour produire un mélange de valéraldéhyde et d'isobutylène, que l'on peut séparer en courant d'isobutylène enrichi et utiliser dans la production de méthyl tert-butyléther, d'alcool butylique tertiaire, de di-isobutylène ou de polyisobutylène.
