PIERCING TOOL

A piercing tool to form a series of puncture marks in soft materials, such as pumpkins, is provided. The tool includes a handle, a working head, and a plurality of piercing elements, which may be formed as a one-piece plastic construction. The working head may be a flat blade terminating in an arcuate distal end with outwardly divergent side edges and an area of increased thickness to minimize lateral deflection of the blade while in use. The piercing elements project from the working head in a plane and may have a common height and configuration or include a primary tooth flanked by secondary teeth of a different height and configuration than the primary tooth. A method of forming a series of puncture marks is also provided and includes the steps of driving one piercing element into the material and advancing the tool to drive in an adjacent piercing element. Cette invention se rapporte à un outil perforant servant à former une série de perforations dans des matières molles, par exemple dans une citrouille. Cet outil comprend un manche, une tête et plusieurs pointes, pouvant être conçus sous la forme d'une structure en plastique en une seule pièce. La tête peut être constituée par une lame plate se terminant par une extrémité distale courbe avec des bords latéraux divergents et une zone d'épaisseur accrue, de façon à réduire au minimum la flexion latérale de la lame, au moment de l'utilisation. Les pointes font saillie de la tête dans un même plan et peuvent présenter une hauteur et une configuration communes ou posséder une dent primaire entourée d'une dent secondaire de hauteur et de configuration différentes. Un procédé pour former une série de perforations est également décrit et consiste à enfoncer l'une des pointes dans la matière à perforer et à faire avancer l'outil pour y enfoncer une pointe adjacente.
