L'invention concerne un procédé pour préparer du styrène comprenant la déshydratation en phase gazeuse de 1-phényléthanol à une température élevée, en présence d'un catalyseur de déshydratation, dans lequel le catalyseur de déshydratation comprend des particules catalytiques d'alumine formées, présentant une zone de surface (BET) comprise entre 80 et 140 m /g et un volume de pores (Hg) supérieur à 0,65 ml/g.
