The multi-mode layer includes first and second interoperable radio access technologies, for example W-CDMA UMTS and GSM/GPRS technologies. La présente invention concerne une architecture (200) d'appareils mobiles de radiocommunication multimode. Cette architecture (200) réunit une couche applications (210), une couche services (220) à interface avec la couche applications, une couche multimode (230) à interface avec la couche services, et une couche matériel (240) à interface la couche multimode. La couche multimode intègre 2 techniques d'accès radio capables d'interfonctionnement, notamment l'UMTS en AMRC large bande (W-CDMA UMTS) et le GSM/GPRS.
