MOBILE COMMUNICATION STATIONS, METHODS AND SYSTEMS

A method for use in a mobile communication system for estimating the location of a target mobile station (MS) which includes receiving signals from the trarget MS at a plurality of receivers in differencet locations and calculating the location of the target MS from information obtained from the received signals, wherein the calculation of location is carried out by the searching MS. The method may involve the target MS and the searching MS or MSs communicating by a direct mode of operation (DMO) link. The searching MSs may conveniently have GPS attachments. A mobile station which may be used as the target MS or as a searching MS and a system incorporating the same is also disclosed. L'invention concerne un procédé destiné à être mis en oeuvre dans un système de communication mobile pour estimer l'emplacement une station mobile cible. Ledit procédé consiste à recevoir des signaux envoyés par la station mobile cible au niveau d'une pluralité de récepteurs situés à différents emplacements, et à calculer l'emplacement de la station mobile cible à partir des informations obtenues des signaux reçus, ledit calcul étant effectué par la station mobile effectuant la recherche. Ce procédé peut impliquer une communication entre la station mobile cible et la ou les stations mobiles effectuant la recherche par l'intermédiaire d'une liaison fonctionnant en mode direct. Les stations effectuant la recherche peuvent de manière avantageuse présenter des accessoires GPS. L'invention concerne en outre une station mobile pouvant être utilisée comme station mobile cible ou comme station effectuant la recherche, ainsi qu'un système comprenant ladite station mobile.
