METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ELECTRONIC DEVICE FEATURE ACCESS

A simplified user interface for accessing multiple features resident in an electronic device. A higher level menu includes a location application. The user launches the location application and enters a name or partial name of a feature or application the user wishes to locate. The application then displays to the user a list of features that most closely match the user entry. The user can then choose one of the displayed features or applications. The user is also provided the opportunity to scroll through a list of available features within the device. If the user accesses a feature from the list the corresponding control display is presented to the user. If the user accesses an application from the list the application is immediately launched. The high level application allows the user to access features and launch applications without navigating the menu structure. L'invention concerne une interface utilisateur simplifiée permettant d'accéder à des fonctionnalités multiples résidant dans un dispositif électronique. Un menu de plus haut niveau comprend une application de localisation. L'utilisateur lance l'application de localisation et entre le nom ou le nom partiel d'une fonctionnalité ou d'une application qu'il souhaite localiser. Ensuite, l'application affiche à l'utilisateur une liste des fonctionnalités correspondant le plus à l'entrée de l'utilisateur. L'utilisateur peut alors choisir une des fonctionnalités ou applications affichées. L'utilisateur a également la possibilité de faire défiler une liste des fonctionnalités disponibles dans le dispositif. Si l'utilisateur accède à une fonctionnalité de la liste, la commande correspondante est affichée à l'utilisateur. Si l'utilisateur accède à une application de la liste, l'application est lancée immédiatement. L'application de haut niveau permet à l'utilisateur d'accéder aux fonctionnalités et lance les applications sans naviguer dans la structure menu.
