Ce complexe contient des ligands parmi lesquels un au moins peut se fixer à une biomolécule et émettre une fluorescence polarisée de durée suffisamment longue pour être utilisé en tant que fluorophore dans une analyse FP ou en tant que donneur dans une analyse FRET.
