FLAME RETARDANT REINFORCED COMPOSITES

A fire resistant thermosetting resin composite formulation comprising an effective amount of a flame suppressant additive. The thermosetting resin used in the formulation can be a polyester resin. The flame suppressant additive is a polyvinyl chloride powder which may be obtained as a reaction product of an emulsion polymerization, or alternatively, it may be obtained from recycled products containing significant amounts of polyvinyl chloride. The additive can be used in an amount of from about 1 % by weight to about 75 % by weight based on the amount of an inorganic filler material that may be present in the formulation. La résine thermodurcissante utilisée dans la formulation peut être une résine de polyester. L'additif ignifuge consiste en une poudre de chlorure de polyvinyle qu'on peut obtenir sous forme de produit réactionnel d'une polymérisation d'émulsion ou, dans un autre mode de réalisation, à partir de produits recyclés contenant des quantités importantes de chlorure de polyvinyle. On peut utiliser cet additif en quantité de 1 % en poids à 75 % en poids basée sur la quantité d'un matériau de charge inorganique pouvant être présent dans la formulation.
