Zusammenfassung:	A combined read and write VCO (600) for data channels (300) shares a common loop capacitor (620, 622) while providing optimal read and write VCO loop responses, and allows the VCO (600) to relock to the write timebase after a read very quickly while maintaining an accurate timebase. The combined read and write VCO (600) includes an oscillator (630, 640, 646) providing an output signal (650) having a frequency that varies proportionately to an oscillator input signal and an adjustable voltage source (620, 622, 624), the adjustable voltage source (620, 622, 624), having a first configuration for a write mode and a second configuration for a read mode, and the adjustable voltage source (620, 622, 624) providing the oscillator input signal to the oscillator (630, 640, 646) in response to receiving an input current signal (610). The adjustable voltage source (620, 622, 624) includes a first (620) and second capacitor (622) coupled in series and a switch (624) coupled across the second capacitor (622), the switch (624) being open to provide the first configuration and closed to provide the second configuration.
