REPLACEABLE WEAR MEMBER

A wear protection system (14) is disclosed for protecting a parent member (12) of an earthworking machine, such as a bed of an off-highway truck for instance. The protection system (14) includes a replaceable wear member (10), which is detachably mounted to a mounting base (16) by a retainer (18). The wear member (10) is provided with a skeletal frame (30) with an enlarged window-like opening (32) and outstretched leg portion (44) to reduce the weight of the wear member (10). The pockets (94, 96) formed by the window like opening (32) and in the spaces between adjoining wear members (10) fill with material so as to insulate the parent member (12) of the truck bed from frictional wear due to material sliding over the bed when dumping material therefrom.
