Zusammenfassung:A method for performing user authentication by using a fingerprint in an electronic device is provided. The method includes obtaining fingerprint image and fingerprint position information corresponding to an area of the user's finger, comparing the fingerprint image obtained by using fingerprint position information with a pre-registered fingerprint image corresponding to the position of the area to thereby perform the user authentication, and pairing the fingerprint image corresponding to the area of the user's finger with the fingerprint position information to be thereby stored in the memory.
