Zusammenfassung:A method and an apparatus for reading a data pattern from or writing a data pattern to a storage medium are described. During reading a pattern retrieval stage retrieves a test pattern and the data pattern from the storage medium. A decoder, which is trained with pattern elements of the retrieved test pattern by a training stage, decodes the retrieved data pattern by performing a comparison between topologies of the retrieved data pattern and representative patterns derived from the test pattern during training of the decoder.
