The wallboard includes a set gypsum dihydrate derived substantially from a non-fibrous form of calcium sulfate and selected from the group consisting of anhydrous gypsum and gypsum hemihydrate. The wallboard also includes an aerogel dispersed in the gypsum dihydrate.
