Zusammenfassung:Pins comprising nanorods and attached members are provided. Two exemplary embodiments of pins are such that: the nanorod is partially embedded in the attached member; and one end of the nanorod is attached to the surface of the attached member. In some embodiments, the attached member is an optical handle. The use of the pin in a microscope to probe objects of interest is further provided, and enables a means of acquiring optical and topographical information about an object of interest.
