Zusammenfassung:	A vertical type engine includes: an engine body having a crank chamber and a cylinder bore; and a timing transmission chamber provided above the engine body and housing a timing transmission device that connects between a crankshaft and a cam shaft which are vertically placed, respectively, wherein a generator driven by the crankshaft is placed above the timing transmission device, and a breather chamber communicating with the crank chamber and an intake silencer box is provided between the generator and the crank chamber placed below the generator on the side opposite from the cam shaft with respect to the crankshaft. Hence, a vertical type engine that includes a breather chamber dedicated for gas-liquid separation and is compact can be achieved.
