Zusammenfassung:	In an internal combustion engine which is a machine having an oil seal in which an oil seal mounted between a through hole through which a balance shaft is allowed to pass and a circumferential surface of the through hole is covered entirely by a cover, a retaining plate adapted to cover at least part of the oil seal is fixed with a bolt within the cover, whereby the oil seal is retained by the retaining plate at an axial setting position within the through hole. The, an extending portion is provided on the retaining plate in such a manner as to extend outwardly of the cover, so that the mounting of the retaining plate can be confirmed from the outside of the cover.
