Zusammenfassung:	In a device for controlling the speed of an internal combustion engine driving a utility unit with a speed control circuit for the internal combustion engine and with a load control circuit for the utility unit, the device includes sensors and an evaluation unit for detecting and evaluating the state of the system as a whole, and an arrangement for an intervention in the speed control circuit and/or the load control circuit depending on critical relevant system states in order to achieve a reduction in the system complexity and thus a better control of the dynamics of the system as a whole.
