Zusammenfassung:Process for making an alkyl-substituted salicylaldehyde wherein the alkyl substitution amounts to at least 8 alkyl carbon atoms per molecule, and preferably not more than 25, comprising ozonolizing an alkyl-substituted 2-hydroxy beta-methylstyrene wherein said alkyl substitution amounts to at least 8 carbon atoms per molecule. Upon oximation of the products, useful metal extractants are produced, particularly for the extraction of copper.
