Zusammenfassung:	A method and system for detecting and coding information regarding the defects into a photosensitive web containing a magnetic media. The system includes a scanner for scanning a photosensitive web for determining defects and producing a signal which provides information with respect to the defect. The system further includes a device for taking the signal and transforming it to a form capable of being placed on the magnetic media; and a recording head for recording the information onto the web. The information read may be used to locate and remove the area of the web containing the defect or advancing the web so that the portion of the web having the defect will not be used.
